Tram Dubai

Description

With the Dubai tram to the beach

There is only one tram line in Dubai but it's an important one, because you can take it to go to the beach! The tram in Dubai actually more like a metro than a tram. The tram is not connected to high-voltage cables and looks supersonic. The tram runs at high speed on a separate track and has Wifi and air conditioning on board. Between the tram stops is quite a distance compared to trams in other big cities.

Tram stops of the Dubai tram

The tram line in Dubai runs from Al Sufouh to the Jumeirah Beach Residence (also called Marina Beach) and back again. There are a total of eleven stations:

Al Sufouh - Knowledge Village - Palm Jumeirah - Media City - Mina Al Seyahi - Marina Towers - Dubai Marina - Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 - Jumeirah Beach Residence 2 - Jumeirah Lakes Towers - Marina Mall

After the Marina Mall stop, the tram goes back via the Dubai Marina stop and the other stations to Al Sufouh. It may be a bit confusing because the tram indicates that it is going to Jumeirah Lakes Towers, but after that station it continues to the other stops. At the Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina stations you can transfer to the Dubai metro. At the Palm Jumeirah station you can transfer to the Palm monorail to the Palm Jumeirah. Get off at Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 or Jumeirah Beach Residence 2 if you would like to visit the beach. To visit the Dubai Marina, get off at the Dubai Marina or Marina Mall stops.

Travel classes in the Dubai tram

Note that there are different classes on board of the tram in Dubai. The Gold class is a bit more luxurious and you can only use it when you have a Gold Nol card. When you have a Silver Nol card you can only take place in the Silver class. There is also a special class for ladies and children on board of the tram and no men are allowed to sit here. This is clearly indicated in the cars.

How do you buy a ticket for the tram in Dubai?

For using the public transport in Dubai you need a Nol card. This is a travel chip card that you use to check in and out on the platform (not on the tram itself). The Nol card can be bought at the ticket machines on the platform and you can pay with credit card and cash. There are different types of Nol cards. If you want to use Dubai public transport more often, it is best to buy a Silver card. For a single journey you can buy a red Nol card.
